Applied Myofascial Sciences

Advanced clinical education and mentorship for practitioners seeking deeper understanding, better outcomes, and greater confidence in myofascial and pain-based treatment.

Built from real-world clinical practice, not technique memorization.

What Is Applied Myofascial Sciences?

Applied Myofascial Sciences is an independent education company focused on advanced clinical reasoning, refined technique, and practical application of myofascial and pain science.

AMS was created to address the gap between certification and true clinical confidence. Education is designed for practitioners who already have foundational training and want to improve how they think, assess, and treat — not simply add more techniques.

Rob

The instructor previously trained under Jan Dommerholt and served as a Myopain Seminars instructor, developing a rigorous foundation in anatomy, trigger point physiology, and tissue-based clinical reasoning.

Applied Myofascial Sciences is led by a practicing clinician with extensive experience treating a wide range of patient populations, from individuals with chronic pain and complex conditions such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) to professional and elite athletes, including NFL players.

This breadth of clinical practice provides a unique perspective on tissue behavior, pain mechanisms, and treatment decision-making across very different presentations. The education offered through Applied Myofascial Sciences is grounded in what consistently helps patients in the real world — not in idealized or one-size-fits-all models of care.

With over eight years of experience teaching pain science, myofascial concepts, and clinical reasoning to healthcare and manual therapy professionals, AMS coursework reflects both daily clinical practice and an understanding of the downstream effects of how techniques are taught and applied.

AMS Courses & Offerings

Clinical Dry Needling: Beyond Certification

This one-day advanced course is designed for clinicians who are already practicing dry needling and want to move beyond basic technique into confident, effective clinical application.

Many clinicians leave introductory dry needling courses with uncertainty around anatomy, fear of needling near sensitive regions, inconsistent patient outcomes, or feedback that treatment feels overly aggressive or ineffective. This course addresses those gaps by focusing on refinement, reasoning, and integration, rather than protocol-driven needling.

Course Focus

Participants will learn how to:

  • Explain dry needling clearly and confidently to patients
  • Refine technique and dosage to improve patient comfort and outcomes
  • Learn alternative and often more efficient needling approaches for muscles they already treat
  • Build confidence needling commonly avoided muscles, including regions near the lung field
  • Understand what dry needling changes physiologically at the tissue and neuromuscular level
  • Integrate dry needling into complete treatment sessions rather than using it in isolation

In addition to addressing commonly avoided muscles, the course introduces alternative needling approaches for muscles participants are already familiar with. These techniques are often simpler, less irritating to tissue, and more efficient, while maintaining safety and effectiveness. Emphasis is placed on clinical decision-making rather than rigid protocols.

Who This Course is For

This course is intended for licensed clinicians who are already certified in dry needling, including physical therapists, athletic trainers, chiropractors, and other healthcare professionals practicing within their scope.

This is not an introductory dry needling course.

How the Course Is Taught

Instruction is delivered through a combination of focused lecture, anatomical review, clinical discussion, and hands-on instruction.

Muscle-specific instruction is adapted to the group and follows a consistent framework, allowing participants to apply the same reasoning process to muscles not directly covered during the course.
